Community Referrals Programme

The referrals tool and screening tools for individuals and families and carers have been completed after comprehensive consultation among BME organization communities while all the relevant publicity materials are designed and printed.

The CRP posters have been sent to health centres, GP's, community organizations and other services for public attention. The CRP has started recruiting referral agencies and training community organisation staff on the use of the tools.

BME Community Providers Programme

The programme is currently working with the following communities:

Refugee and Migrant Development Association (RAMDA) – a volunteer initiative has been established which involves equipping a number of local Somali volunteers with the appropriate training, skills and knowledge to enable them to provide an outreach support service to Somali Khat users and their families/carers throughout the City of Manchester.

African Francophone Integration Project (AFIP) - Three consultation events have been held to provide members of this community with an opportunity to air their views around any drugs and alcohol issues in the community. These events covered Drugs, Alcohol; and Families and Carers. Each of these consultations was facilitated in partnership with Manchester Drug Services and Community Alcohol Team, and a number of interesting issues have emerged. The findings will be analyzed; a report produced, which will include recommendations for taking work with community forward.

The Equality and Diversity Accreditation Programme (EDAP) is a brand new audit and accreditation framework developed by Manchester Drugs and Race Unit (MDRU). The EDAP is designed to guide and assist services through a process of development that is aimed at raising the performance and developing standards in relation to equality and diversity across drug andalcohol services within the city.

The EDAP has been designed for use alongside the Diversity Assessment Package (DAP) that has been recently developed by University of Central Lancashire (Uclan) on behalf of the National Treatment Agency (NTA).
