Arise Project

For people recently diagnosed/ living with HIV and affected by HIV. The Arise Project provides a lifeline for those needing both practical help with everyday living and emotional support.

There still remains a significant amount of denial and stigma attached to being HIV positive and there are fears of prejudice, discrimination and being rejected by family, friends and the wider community.

The Arise Project is there to provide the needed advice, information and support to Black (African, Caribbean, Asian & Mixed Race) communities living or affected by HIV in Manchester. There are three main components of these support services:

• Direct one- to-one support including information advice, information, befriending, advocacy, financial help, hospital & home visits and referrals to other service providers if required.
• Drop-in service, based in Central Manchester at the Zion Community Centre(see address below) . The drop in service runs every Monday (except Bank Holidays) between 12:00 and 3:00pm where food and refreshments are available as well as providing service users with the time and a confidential space to explore their feelings, seek advice in confidence, without prejudice and get the information that they need as well as sharing experiences and learning from others living with HIV (peer support). It also provides activities such as a women’s group, book club, meditation classes, social trips
  
• Provision of training courses for people recently diagnosed with HIV. This course runs one day a week for a period of four weeks
