Manchester Race & Health Forum

Manchester is a city with a very diverse population, and Manchester Race and Health Forum came in to being to help ensure that that diversity was reflected in the provision of health care.

The Forum works to improve the health of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups in Manchester by:

• Advocating for equality and equity of access to health and social care
• Advocating for equality and equity of service delivery and care of all members of BME groups using health and social care services
• Advocating for equality and equity of employment in health and social care services
• Increasing awareness and understanding amongst NHS members, officers and staff on relevant race, religious and cultural issues.

Who we are

The main concentration of the Forum’s work is on a city-wide strategic basis, advising organisations in the Manchester NHS economy.

The Forum has a Stakeholders Group which has regular meetings attended by representatives of statutory services and voluntary and community organisations, as well as individuals.
We are also currently encouraging members of Black Community Care Consultation forum to join us to form a Health & Social Care forum , which will provide a joint voice for the community to have a say in how services are developed and decisions made.

The Forum acts in an advisory capacity to Primary Care Trusts and works closely with the Local Authority.

It also is a consultative and opinion gathering mechanism which feeds into
key government departments which are responsible for developing policy.

What we do
