Reform of the Care and Support System: Regional Stakeholder Event

Manchester, Monday 16 June 2008, 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

The reform of the care and support system is not just about the future of social care. It is about creating a new holistic care and support system encompassing housing support services, support for independent living, benefits that help people with the extra cost of disability in later life, and the interface with the NHS.

There are a number of issues that need to be addressed before such a system can be developed. The Government believes that finding a solution to these issues will require a radical rethink of how we can pay for and deliver care and support services. For further infomation, see www.careandsupport.direct.gov.uk

A number of stakeholder events are being held across the country. To register for the Manchester event, visit

Resources/Training:

New guidance on CRB checks for volunteers published

The Office of the Third Sector has published guidance to help organisations that use volunteers to be clear about when they do and don’t need to carry out Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks on volunteers.

The guidance will help cut unnecessary red tape and responds to concerns voiced by the voluntary sector that potential volunteers can be put off if they are asked to undergo a CRB check without good reason.

You can access the guidance and find further information on the OTS website.
