Residents of South Manchester: do you have a problem with crime in your neighbourhood? Community Safety Network (CSN) are the voluntary/community sector representative on the Crime and Disorder Partnership and can help you tackle your local community safety needs. They guarantee feedback on all the issues you raise and will help get your priorities addressed at a senior level. Come along- have your say. Booking only- places limited to 30.

Social Enterprise Education And The Global Dimension - FREE conference

Wednesday 25 June 2008 - 10:30 am - 3:30 pm with free vegetarian lunch

A conference for organisations promoting or delivering social enterprise education in schools. It will aim to: explain how social enterprise education supports the global dimension in education, and how both strengthen enterprise education, showcase activities run by participants and learn from their experiences, demonstrate how to run these activities in your own region, explain what else the global dimension supports, plan a NWGEN event in 2009 (for example a Social Enterprise and Global Dimension Conference for teachers and social enterprises).

Self Help Services - Mental health and well being co-ordinator (Tier 2)

Location: Zion Community Resource Centre, Hulme (working on an outreach basis in various locations in Stockport)
Hours: 35 per week
Contract: Fixed Term for 1 year

Self Help Services is a user led mental health charity that has developed considerable expertise in the field of primary care mental health. The charity currently delivers a range of services including self help support groups, complementary therapy services, cCBT services and a primary care mental health team.
The Mental Health and Well Being Co-ordinator will develop, co-ordinate and deliver computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (cCBT) services across the Stockport area to support people experiencing common mental health problems such as depression and/or anxiety.

The successful candidate will have a genuine passion for improving the lives of those people who are affected by common mental health problems alongside a proven track record in the delivery of primary care mental health services.

Funding:

Funding for improving relations between different ethnic/religious groups

A £750,000 fund has been launched for community projects that work to improve relations between different ethnic and religious groups. The Barrow Cadbury Trust fund will typically provide voluntary and community projects with grants worth £30,000 over a two-year period. Funding will be offered to projects that promote solidarity between people of different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds.

Early Breast Cancer Screening for Black Women - No. 10 E-petition

A petition has been set up online around the issue of early breast cancer screening for Black women in view of the research which suggests that onset of breast cancer is earlier and tumours more likely to be aggressive in Black women. (See e.g. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18182985)

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Implement a programme of early breast cancer screening programme for Black Women starting at age 30 years of age. The current screening policy should be assessed for race equality impact using current research data available with the view to a major policy change.
