Volunteering at African AIDS Helpline/ARISE Projects
Volunteers are at the heart of the work we do
supporting projects and initiatives that serve people living with HIV/AIDS. Getting yourself or your friends involved is easy. Check out the available volunteer opportunities described below; fill out an online volunteer application form; and discuss your wishes with a staff member. Then start volunteering!
National African AIDS Helpline
The African AIDS Helpline attends to a range of issues with regards to questions on prevention, testing, care, treatment and access questions from over 3000 callers every year. Helpline Advisors respond to a diverse group of callers with various needs and stay informed with the latest HIV treatment information. More information about the helpline can be found at www.africaninengland.org.uk. To become a volunteer helpline advisor, fill out both the volunteer online. Fundraising and special events
The African AIDS Helpline and ARISE Projects schedule several special events throughout the year, and volunteers help us with both the preparation for and on-site management of the events. As well, the two projects African AIDS Helpline &ARISE Projects also participate in other community events where individuals as well as volunteer teams can help, such as Sexual health week, World AIDS Day, or doing presentations to publicise the projects and the services we offer. General office support The African AIDS Helpline ARISE Projects daily activities can be supported by volunteers providing general administrative support, including answering phones, facilitating groups, running a drop-in, training, befriending, data entry, mailing outs, filing and errands. Some positions need interpersonal skills, networking with community, outreach work, knowledge of database, typing and computer skills.
